So I am making a quilted wall hanging for my mums church (she is a minister) and have come across this "quilters sateen" fabric, basically its 100% cotton with a satin weave used to give it a very lusterous finish.

has anyone used this fabric? any special precautions i would need to take? I ask because it looks a fairly..... unforgiving fabric.

I would buy just a fat quarter to experiment and work with it, wash it, etc. I think it would be beautiful in a wall hanging.

It is beautiful for a wholecloth quilt.

I'd like to try sateen. Where do you find it?

Sadiemae, Do you do wholecloth quilts and if so where do you buy them? I've only seen the same 2 patterns over and over on the internet.

I took an on-line class over a year ago to design your own, but I have not had time to make mine yet.

I use it as backing, and as a panel in my art quilts as a foundation for applique. Just check the fabric content, as some sateens out there are cotton/poly blends.

I just bought Sateen solid white for the sashing of a baby quilt and love that it's so "dense!" I will be forced to press a few seams toward the white and I don't think they'll show at all! I'm sure it's not the best sateen - I got it at Joann's but by golly it's the most expensive fabric they carry! I liked the different sheen because it's sashing and sets it off even more.

I have seen some beautiful english satin at JoAnns by the Kona Cottons. I believe it was a cotton poly blend but it sure looked like it would work great in a quilt or wallhanging.
