I would like to know if anyone has purchased a quilting frame that you can use your own machine or purchase a quilting frame with a sewing machine attached. These are not long arm quilters, but the more affordable ones that would fit into a regular sized room. I have seen several advertised in the quilting magazines and am interested in buying one, but I don't know what all is involved, how well they really work, and how expensive they really are when you purchase all the things needed to make machine quilting the top and bottom together.

Diana, I noticed that your post brought out the google ads for this type machine and frame. When considering spending this kind of money, it is always wise to understand just what you can and cannot do with a short arm machine. Research all you can, but also get as much hands on you can find. Most large guild shows and manufacture shows will have at least one company represented with a working model. I would never purchase a sewing machine or quilter online, without actually using it. This may mean a day trip to a larger community, but the more information you gather will prepare you to understand what to expect. Good luck with your search. Keep us updated. :D

Diana, I was wondering if you've tried machine quilting already even without the fancy equipment? Boo's given some excellent hints on how to do it on the message board. I found a site by quilt artist Paula Reid that's very helpful (also a wicked cute name: www.battsintheattic.com ) ! Check under Tips & Tricks there. I would hate to see you spend a lot of money and sewing room space if your machine is up to the job!

I bought a combo pack. I got the gracie sturdy lite with a Juki TL98QE. I done 3 baby quilts on it so far and love it I can do up to a queen size. It takes some getting use to but I like it. If I had thought about it and had to do it over again I would go with the Little gace 2 the sturdt lite has to stay up once set up the others are foldable for storage when not in use. Its realy a matter of preference and space.

I can not longer hand quilt. because of arthisis but can do it with the machine and frame.

I just purchased the Baby Grace Quilting Frame with the Juki 98QE Machine. The machine and patterns arrived today but still waiting on the frame (drop shipped from manufacturer). Unfortunately, had a medical emergency before everything arrived and have not even been able to open box. I ordered the package from Ken's Sewing and Vacuum Cener in Alabama. You can find it on the internet. I spoke with Kevin, who was very helpful. My total cost was about $1300, and shippng was free, so that was a big savings. I have heard lots of good things about the Grace frames and hope to use it soon. (An instructional CD comes with the frame).
