I'm new at quilting but recently looked at "quilting" machines. Am very interested in the Husquvarna Viking Mega Quilter which would give me the ability to "quilt" good sized quilts rather than take everything to a long arm at a shop. It also does free motion quilting without a stitch regulator. I think I may want the regulator but it is an additional $300-$400. Looked at Bernina but the price is out of my range; and, the stitch regulator is a good bit more expensive. Any advice/suggestions?

Have you looked at the Janome Horizon 7700? That has a large throat area (11"). It's quite expensive and I'm not sure how it compares in price to the Viking Mega Quilter. The 7700 is quite a machine with over 200 stitches, if that interests you. I have one and love the extra throat space.

I have had the Viking Mega Quilter for about three years and absolutely love it. I also have a Bernina 630 with the stitch regulator which I don't use very often (have no reason why) but usually use the Viking instead.

Thank you. Your response makes me feel better as I lean more to the Viking (for the price it seems as good as the others for 3 times as much) Mega quilter. Very happy to hear from someone who owns one and has used it a while. I'll let you know what I decide. Thanks again---
