Default Quilting over Printed Treasures Photos: Suggestions, Please.

I'm making a memory quilt for someone whose father passed away. She wanted a photo in the center of the quilt of her dad. The quilt is 31 x 35 or so with the photo in the center being 7x9.
I need to quilt within the photo to maintain the stability of the wall hanging.
I'd appreciate any ideas on how to quilt the photo (printed on Printed Treasures) without distorting the image of this gal's dad.
Thanks.

Could you outline the image of the person and maybe do some sort of fill in the background? I would definitely use a very find thread like invisifil or silk for this so as not to detract. Additionally you may get away without quilting at all if it is just a wall hanging and will not be washed. Washing is what breaks down the integrity of batting. Or use a batting you can leave up to 10" unquilted like W&N, quilters Dream Poly, or dream green.

I recently did a photo quilt with a center photo of about 12x16. I used bubble jet set on bleached muslin. To stabilize the center, I simply quilted around the edges of the people so that it didn't really show but also highlighted the important part of the picture.

I'd echo quilt around the main subject of the photo. Possibly use a finer thread and needle if you must quilt inside'
