Isn't it great that there are sooo many different quilting styles available? Traditional, Modern,Art styles. For me personally, I find Modern quilts to be usually boring, so much negative space, very simplistic piecing. I love to challenge myself when I quilt, but, that is just me. As my Mom always said, it would be a very boring world if everyone liked the same thing. What do you think?

I do traditional and modern. Depends on what you are making it for.
Have not tried art quilting and am not that talented with art.
Just did a simple modern bed quilt with batiks and sent it out for quilting.
Usually make lap size and baby quilts and quilt them myself. But large quilts are to hard for me to quilt on my machine even though it has a 10 in throat.
Bought a cheap embroidery machine with a 4 in design area and am having a ball with it. Made a baby quilt with red work teddy bears.

I like them all but for me traditional quilting is more my style. The modern quilts look more like art for the wall so you can appreciate the design. I watched the Smilebox on the modern quilts competition recently on The Quilt Show and they were some interesting designs but a lot of grey.

I like the modern look of quilts, and I'm glad to see that there are people willing to put themselves out there to do something different. But I usually do traditional patterns with a more modern fabric look than most folks I've seen. I am not a fan of "traditional" fabrics - repros bore me and I'm not a fan of calico type fabrics.

I am finishing up a VERY traditional churn dash for my DH - he chose the fabrics, and it's been a quilt that's years in the making because I don't like the fabrics at all. I've been toying with an idea lately to make the same quilt using much more modern fabric choices. But my next quilt has to be for my mother, who quilts herself, but made a comment the other day about how I've made quilts for my MIL, my grandmother in law, my grandmother, and my dad, but not one for her. She's not the most subtle person in the world, is she? LOL I'm trying to decide what pattern I want to make for her, but you can bet the fabric will be something I like better than the Civil War Repros my husband chose!

I have tried so many "styles" and just never know which style I will attempt next. I believe that is one of the many parts of quilting that keeps it fun and challenging at the same time.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE modern quilts!!! I love the negative space. I love everything about modern quilts! I also findo repro fabrics not to my liking. I love Civil War fabrics though. I love traditional quilts also. I love the art quilts. I just received a $40 book on making art quilts. I want to try that. I'm leery of it. I draw quite well, but don't know if that is what it takes to make an art quilt. I think I will make an applique art quilt to begin with.

I don't like Kaffe Fassett fabric at all. It reminds me of curtains from the 70s or bedspreads from cheap motels. I accidentally ordered a whole fat quarter bundle of his and promptly gave it away. I don't like the craziness of the fabric design. I don't know why. It's not pleasing to my eyes.

I love the modern quilts now. When I first started, I only knew traditional and made several of those while collecting modern art for my walls. Never put the two together - that I could make a modern quilt! I'm so glad that there are others out there who are willing to push the boundaries for timid folks like me.
