Default frame or not?

How many of you do handquilting without a frame? I am working on one that has been pinned and basted quite close and am doing the handquilting without a hoop/frame. So far it is working out O.K. Thanks!!

I haven't but my grandmother did all the time. No problems did she have and her quilts were wonderful.

I would like to try hand quilting without a frame, but have always been afraid I would get wrinkles on the back. I have to assume that is not the case though, because I keep reading about those who do it successfully.

I hand quilt without a frame. I find it easier actually.

I've been quilting without a hoop for years, even a king size. Just make sure your top is basted well. For wall size & lap size, I pin baste, for larger I have it basted by a longarmer.

I ALWAYS handquilt without a frame or hoop. I baste well and have had ZERO problems with puckers on the back. I just never could get used to the hoop.

when i hand quilt i either use a hoop or nothing- a frame is (too restrictive) for me- i don't have the space- and i like to turn my work alot- so a hoop works best but for small projects sometimes i don't need a hoop.
