I am quilting with wildfires, literally. I quilt awhile and then pull up the map on the local tv station's website to see how close the fires are. So far we just have smoke approaching, and the wind is really high (35 mph) so the smoke blows a long ways from the fires. There are five I am watching. My site says all are contained. The closest is 20 miles away, but with high winds....well, ya gotta watch.

That being said, I am close to finishing the binding on a charity quilt. Our guild has a habit of giving quilts to folks whose houses have burned, and about 13 burned north/northwest of Wichita Falls Friday, when winds were 55 mph. I have a feeling this quilt may go out before our next guild meeting.

Not to worry about me here...I am just quilting and watching. If it is time to evacuate, I will gather my husband, son, cats, important stuff like medicine and insurance forms, and head out. :) Right now the fires are contained, just the smoke isn't.

I bet I am the only one quilting and watching wildfires at this very moment!

We had a lot of fires here to this year, so far...but lucky enough not close to home, but my heart goes out to everyone who looses there belongings because of them...Glad the fires are still good ways from you. Its a mazing how you can smell and see the smoke when its so far away from you! We could smell the smoke here as well, but never saw it! Just what we saw on the TV.

Lived with the smoke from a forest fire about 30km away from us one summer. Very scary, even had hot ash blowing in on the wind. I hope the fires remain contained. I was ready to leave on a moments notice too. No fun. Thankfully the winds turned and the fire didn't get any closer.
Thoughts with you!

Thanks for your thoughts. I just walked around outside, and though it is still smoky here, nothing seems to have changed. Back to quilting.

I feel for the firefighters though. They were all pretty worn out after fighting fires all day Friday. Yesterday was so calm and pretty. I hoped we were through with fires for a long time.

Okay, back to quilting.

Hey there! My daughter is in Iowa Park Tx and her honey man is a volunteer firefighter too! Talked to him a couple of hrs ago, and they are chasing again! It is very windy down here again, we have had a few fires but not as bad as there! Take care!
