I inquired to Quilts for Kids to start a chapter in Oklahoma. (None in Oklahoma). Monthly quilts required are from 35 to 100, wanting to jump in with both feet but feeling a little apprehensive. Would love to have your comments, suggestions, personal experiences and thoughts on beginning a chapter. Thanks.

What a great thing for you to do!!!
Don't know anything about starting a chapter. I have just been sending mine off to the main address.

That is a lot of quilts for a new chapter starting out. It's a wonderful idea, but I'd make sure I had enough manpower for the required quota before committing.

I too inquired about starting a chapter here in Pittsburgh but the required number of quilts and the fundraising scared me off. I don't know of enough people who quilt to be able to meet their requirement.

If you want a super cause to make baby quilts for:
Mountain Baby Blanket Project for the Christian Appalachian Project. They need from receiving size up to twin size. I just sent out a box yesterday that totals 100 blankets/quilts from us (all from MY stash!) here is the web address for MBBP http://rachelcox.blogspot.com/2009/0...-official.html
If you aren't aware of how sad things are in Appalachia, go to the Christian Appalachian Project web site and look around.
Sorry to butt in, but this is a project I've gotten enthused about.

If you want to start a chapter that makes charity quilts don't let fundraising or quota requirements stop you. These are usually just guidelines anyway. Quilts for Kids wants chapters to be active and productive. Please don't feel like you have to start an official chapter. Just start a group whose focus is to make charity quilts. You can put the organizations you will donate to in the advertisement. Good luck.

In my area, there are lots of places, such as, hospitals, police, firemen, crisis centers that will accept quilts. You just need to find places in your area, get a group of ladies together, & donate. You will find that you will have more requests that you can fill. Also there is no money put out for postage so another quilt can be done.
