Thread: Quilts for Kids Rail Fence question on quilting

I have just finished a Quilts for Kids Rail Fence quilt. I have it layered and ready to quilt. I am not sure what the best way to quilt it would be, so would like some opinions. Perhaps someone here has made one. My first wish would be to meander quilt, but I am terrible at it, so it has to be with a walking foot. I was thinking of stitching in the Ditch around each block and border, then doing an x across each block. Then wavy line the borders. Would this be enough quilting? The website states 2" or so between quilting. The blocks measure 6". Thanks for your help!

I have done the same. Love diagonal and if it's wavy better yet. Wavy softens the piecing.

I like vertical lines, either straight or wavy, about one inch apart. Just edge to edge sewing, goes fast and looks great!

I have made lots of quilts for Quilts for Kids. I have FMQ loopies all over, but alot of of mine I quilt diagonal straight lines....both directions. I usually put them about 2" apart. Good luck! Its a great organization Here's one that I did - the quilting shows better on the back

When I've done them, I've just done diagonal lines a few inches apart in both directions. They require machine quilting - which I normally do not do - so my skills are very limited. They look just peachy. As long as they are reasonably heavily quilted to hold up to the daily washings when in the hospital, it will be fine. Trust me, the kids that are the recipients aren't going to notice. QFK's is an extremely grateful group and none of the volunteers there are going to be judgmental either.
