Same here. I have a few that I use for our large coffee table. No glass or other covering. That's what washing machines are for.

I use Joann's clear vinyl on my table, which displays a rotating selection of vintage tablecloths on it. Once of these days it will sport a quilt, honest. But I don't see why glass wouldn't work to protect the top, but the vinyl protects the sides from drips.

I have a round table and going shopping for a square one so its easier...I love quilted tablecloths. I am not going to put anything on it. I will remove it though when eating as I normally do and replace with placemats. I would love to see some pictures of some pretty tablecloths from folks. Happy quilting!

I'm in the process of making a quilt for my table. I thought that I'd just spray the top with Scotch Guard to help protect it from stains. I thought about using Best Press, but it is so expensive.

My son and daughter in law have a large table that has a glass top. It is heavy, I sure wouldn't think that it would move. It would probably depend on how thick the glass is.

I change my tablecloths with the seasons. I have a Valentines one on right now. I use to buy the plastic at Joanns but found I can buy clear table cloths at Walmart and Bed Bath and Beyond that are the right size and MUCH cheaper. Good luck.

The Christmas Tree Shopp has clear vinyl table cloth covers for starting $3.99. I do believe Bed Bath and Beyond carries them too. I put these over my fabric table cloths to help keep them clean.

I was at a party one time, when the hostess put down a punch bowl a little to hard, and the glass that covered the table broke.

I can't help with your question, but this thread reminds me of a cartoon I saw several years ago in a quilting magazine. A husband and wife are at a table, the wife says "We can't afford this place, they use antique quilts for tablecloths".
