I have a couple of teenage boys in my congregation and since their rough and tough type of boys I thought blue jean quilts would fit the bill. I just happen to have lots of blue jeans already cut up so just need to start putting them together. Might ask your neighbors, family members and friends for old jeans. That's how I got mine.

Thanks for sharing this. I've been looking for an easier chevron. This works for me. I got carried away on her site.

There's a much easier and quicker way to make the Chevron quilts. I found a great tutorial by Crazy Mom Quilts.

Really quick & easy. She has several other tutes that might be good for your project - - -

My guild made a dozen quilts for a youth shelter. We used 8.5 inch HST. Each on was 1/2 black and 1/2 a Modern Quilt Guild logo colour. Each quilt was laid out differently and they all looked great for the teens.

I have more Grandsons than Granddaughters so I have made boy/guy quilts. I don't think much about the patterns, just the colors.
My usual colors are brown, red, white, blue, black. lt.yellow, blues, greens, gold, pine cones, camping, fishing, etc.

I have a lot of plaids in my household so that is where I would go. What about that neat skateboard quilt that was done by that guy on MSQC??? What ever you make, it is going to be great Dina.

Thanks again, everyone. I am looking at each idea really seriously.
I am a retired teacher, grades 7-12, so you'd think I would have a better idea than I do about what teenage boys like... I used to have students introduce themselves on the first day of school by telling the class their passions. (Each student said their name and their passion, then I gave extra credit to students who could remember five or so. It was a fun activity.) I remember sports, skateboards, music, and girls. I figure step one is looking at fabric tomorrow and buying some colors besides purple and turquoise.
My sister offered me some of her fabric, and I may take her up on that...but she has already made 13 quilts for this group of boys. I really figure she has done enough. Hers are all brightly colored, as many of you suggested.

I'm an educator, have 2 sons, 3 stepsons, grandsons one of which we're helping to raise (he's almost 15). Sports themes are fine, but don't do a specific team - think how disappointing to be excited to get your own quilt, only to have it be a team you don't support. Our school has provided Christmas for over a hundred foster teens (mostly boys) and yes they care about the belongings they have, because they don't have a lot. A checkerboard is great- a print and a solid? Lots of guys like turquoise- mix it with a print with turquoise in it?
