Has anyone done a crumb quilt up as a rag quilt? The way im thinking to do it would be to piece it normally until your block would be 6 inches then sandwich it it and quilt the block like you would normally quilt a rag block. Would this work?

I'm not even sure I'd piece it "normally." I think I'd just lay one edge over another and zig zag it down until I had pieces big enough to cut the rag squares from. Zig Zagging them together like that would eliminate any bulk in seams totally and it would add an interesting element to your design.
If you're thinking of the rag quilt where you leave the wide seam allowances on the top and cut them so they ravel, I think you'd have some of the small seams in the cut edge come apart and end up with stubby pieces of fabric rather than soft longer ones. Other than that, I don't see a problem with doing it the way you discuss.

How about making a crumb center for each block and then bordering it with a wider strip that could "rag" after snipping?
