I want to make a few rag quilts like a bear, puppy etc. What is the best fabric for this? Is there patterns for this or do I make them myself? I bought flannel and fleece for the middle of one I am doing now. I take it doesn't matter the size block it's what I decide? What is the best batting for the middle? Help !!!!

Depending on where you are and how heavy you want them- I use polyester batting and flannel front and back . Cut my squares 7 inches my batting 6 inches and away I go

I prefer flannel for both front and back. I also like batting or flannel in the center. I like the soft, cuddly feeling.

Can you use flannel "batting" the same size as the squares and rag it along withe the front/back? Or must it be smaller as with batting?

I use flannel on the front and back and warm and natural batting.

I did mine the same size. It was just easier that way for me. Ragged really nicely.

I'm a novice at this. Do you machine sew them together after they are stuffed or what?? I would love to make one also!
TIA
