No batting and no sewing squares together. 6 inch stacks of denim, yellow flannel and novelty fabric sewn together in rows. I learned the hard way that flannel shrinks, so I had to wash and dry the flannel before cutting it.

Hi Melissa, from your neighbor in the Twin Cities...

I bought some fabric in a bag at a local thrift store. It had a couple of complete tops that needed to be sewn (my mother, bless her) loved one of them that I gave her for Xmas one year, and there was all this precut flannel. It was in all sorts of lengths but all cut to 4" width. It mattered not the color or placement. I sewed pieces together and when they were all about the same length, I sewed the strips totgether. I evened up the ends and proceeded to use John Flynn's method of attaching a back--you use the diagonal of the fabric and use a lot less. But I used one layer of off color flannel as the 'innards'. I used Eleanor Burns method of quick turn (all 4 sides sewn on the machine with a turn hole) and tied the thing. It might not be pretty, but it sure is warm!!

Personally, I think that flannel quilts are best unplanned. Flannel is a fabric that lends itself to leisure, and if you are fighting with it, it isn't leisure nor is it fun.

Stay warm. You have to be as cold as we are!! -14F is cold!!

Yes, Anita, we are cold here. About -2 and aboout -24 windchill.

I'm following a pattern out of the book "Ragged Edge Flowers". It calls for two fabrics. I picked a light blue with a space print and another with a navy blue stripe. All of the pieces are cut on the bias and then the flaps are sewn to give the effect like "cathedral windows"

I didn't think about it that the striped fabric would look funny once it was cut on the bias. Plus, the space print fabric just looks too busy with the cathedral windows look.

I got most of if sewn together yesterday, but then I realized that I'm almost out of thread. I never would have thought in a million years that I would use a whole spool of orange thread. I don't remember using it...EVER! :)

Once I get the thread I'll finish it up and post a pic...it shouldn't really take me too long now.

I am not putting a picture up, but I did a denim and flannel and used old jeans, pockets, buttons, and everything else included. Loved it.- gave it as a gift.

What great quilts! As cold as it is here in the winter, those look wonderful to curl up and snuggle with!
