Default Fake Cathedral Window - I just had to give it a try.

We visited Missouri Star Quilting Shop this summer and Jenny went through several tutorials with us right there. It was wonderful. The latest one that her daughter came up with using precuts was the fake cathedral window. It was so new that they hadn't created a tutorial for it yet. I thought it was so cool, but when I got home and tried it, I couldn't remember the details and couldn't find a tutorial. Well, when we visited Missouri Star a few weeks ago, I asked for the demo again, but Jenny was not available. The ladies were nice enough to call one of her daughters to the shop and she demo it for me again, and I took pictures to help me remember.

I wanted to make a quilt, but decided I should experiment first on a smaller level, starting with 2.5" squares. It takes some planning because you have to lay it out if you want the designs to interlock. My first one finished 12"x 12" and I stitched in the ditch, and the second one, where I experimented with a different layout, finished 16"x 16". I used the QAYG method on the second one because I thought additional quilting would take away from the design.

I'm hooked, so on graph paper I sketched out a pattern and purchased the fabric. Since we have another snow day (number 8 this year), I'll be cutting out my quilt using 5" squares and a few charm packs from our shop visit. When I start sewing, I'll be using the quilt as you go method breaking it up into manageable sections.

What do you think?

That is beautiful!! What's the "fake" part of the cathedral window? They look real to me.
