    Default machine applique stitch

What do you use when doing a folk art buttonhole stitch? I have a Bernina and the single button hole isn't bold enough and when I use the double stitch buttonhole it is too thick. What stitch length and width would you use and what thread is a good buttonhole weight? Thanks.

You can do the regular buttonhole stitch, but with 2 threads treated as one. Just put 2 threads on the machine thread as usual. I have done this with standard weight thread (which I think is 50wt, 3-ply), and it thickens up the look quite a bit. Alternatively maybe look for a 30wt thread. (The lower the wt, the thicker the thread.)
