Hi - I am wanting to get a small travel/portable iron for taking classes. Any recommendation? I am hesitating because I want to be sure what I get gets hot enough and stays on or heats up quickly. I had a small one, but it could only stay on for 10 minutes, and took up to 5 minutes to get completely hot. Not very practical!!

I bought Rowenta's a month or so ago and so far, so good. Bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond - they take just about any coupon (or if you don't have one, you can get them online I think)

I had one of the "regular" Rowneta's, and wasn't very happy with it. They are so often raved about, but for the money I was disappointed - and it didn't last long, either!

Like you, though, I wanted a smaller iron, and after having had one from Wal-Mart that didn't last a year, decided to try this one. So far, so good!

I have a Euro-steam mini iron. Got it when I bought the regular size iron. It is expensive $50, but it works great. Used it at a class and other also used it and really liked it also. Maintained the heat well.

I have the Rowenta travel with steam and love it.
It dosnt get as hot as a big iron but for piecing that is what you want. It does not distort your blocks.
You do have to add water alot because the tank is small.
It handles so well I use it for all my piecing and use a large cheap iron for large pieces of fabric before cutting.
I think I paid about 39 dollars for my Rowenta. Try using a Joanns coupon.
