I am writing this as a new topic as I don't want it to get lost amoung the other answers.
I reread the original post. I can't decide from reading the post exactly what the problem is. The phrase "my phrase - my points don't match" is about the only thing that would tell the problem. So Let me ask some specifics.
First: What is the block pattern.
1. Was the cutting accurate. What was used for cutting and measuring. Did the cuts come out as they were supposed to?
2. Were they hand or machine pieced. Were the seams accurate and consistent in width. Did you pin the two pieces together.
3. You mentioned starching. At what point did you startch and why did you feel you needed to.
4. How about pressing.

When any quilting does not come out as it should, there has to be a reason. It is my opinion that quilters now a days believe that all the new tools and methods should make quilting both fast, easy and accurate. They do not unless they are used correctly.

May I suggest a little experiement. Start the old fashioned way.
Make a template of the finished size of your pieces.
Mark this on your fabric (back side)
Add 1/4" seam allowance and cut with scissors or accurately with rotary cutter.
For the first one - hand piece. That way you will see how the fabric should be manulpilated.
Then do the same by machine linining up the starting points and the seam lines.

Unless you are accurate in all points, something is wrong and one needs to go back and decide what the problem
Measure after each two pieces are sewed together to make sure they are accurate and if not, make the correction.

And last but not least....tell us EXACTY what the problem is so informed answers can be given.

Good tips, but I'm not sure why you didn't post this in the original thread? If we all started new posts to answer people, it would sure get confusing?

Hollis, I didn't post that thread but as a newbie, there are times I feel the same way. Your new post reached out to me & probably many newbies with your good advice. It is appreciated. Thanks.
