Hello everyone,
Does anyone know a sure way to get dried blood stains out of the backing on a quilt? I am binding one for a group and notices someone must have stuck themselves and didn't realize it. There is a good 6 inches of blood spots on the back. I've tried cold water and brushed it with a toothbrush,
but that didn't work.
This quilt is for a Church group quilt bingo and we can't use it like this.
Thanks for any help.
Cathy

You could try hydrogen peroxide--the concentration is the one you can buy at the drug store in the med sized brown bottle. Not too strong and if you want to be cautious dilute it to start with.

Okay after the greyhound bled all over the carpet, wood floors and kitchen floor (due to a broken nail) ... The vet said spray a little hydrogen peroxide on the blood and then sponge it up with paper towel or rag. Darn if it didn't work (on all fabric surfaces) without damaging the couch, area rugs, carpet, dog bed... Good luck

Darn! Now the secret it out. Hydrogen Peroxide is the nurses secret weapon. It is fantastic to get blood out! At the end of a shift if I see blood on my uniform, it works great. One evening I had a placenta drop on my new white tennis shoes during a difficult delivery. Sure enough, a generous dosing of H2O2 did the trick. I've used it on quilts for ages. Yup, I definitely recommend it. It's cheap too! Sara

yep, when i tried to cut my fingers off with the hedge trimmer, i was crying in the emergency room that the towel we had wrapped my hand in would never be the same again and that's what the nurse recommended (hydrogen peroxide straight from the bottle).
worked great!

I'm sure the peroxide will work, but if not try plain white vinegar diluted with water. When my BIL was in a car accident, he was worried that the blood wouldn't come out of his shirt...I got it out by soaking it in vinegar/water then regular washing- the shirt was good as new long before he was!
