Researching Sewing Machines
#1
I've been researching machines with an eye to investing in a new one soon, and came across the Brother PQ-1500S High-Speed Quilting and Sewing Machine. Has anyone heard about or used this machine? What did you think?

You can probably find some reviews of it at http://www.patternreview.com . It's free to join. Just put the brand and model number in the category "sm/serger".
There are so many models on the market, I think it is easier to start with a brand. Have you sewn on Brother machines before? If you are sure you like the Brother brand, then you can narrow it down to models.

I have the Brother PQ 1500S. It's super nice. The only cons I have are
1. Needle threader is the worse one I've ever tried to use.
2. The manual sucks.
It sews a great seam and machine quilts great. I did find out that I can't share an electrical reel off one socket with another sewing machine. It needs full power. The bobbin winder has to be fully disengaged for the machine to sew or you'll go nuts trying to figure out why it won't.

Check out the newest Janome--the one that's priced at $799.
Any good dealer will have several machines that you can sit and sew at before purchasing any. Think of everything that you can that you'd like for a machine to do then go as many "steps up" as you can afford. In the end you'll be much happier. Also, find out ahead of time how much accessories are. Janomes come with several extra feet whereas others, like Bernina don't and the extra feet are very expensive. I don't know about this particular Brothers but I've owned Brothers in the past and liked them.
