Wow, I found a new (old) quilt shop I didn’t know existed and also a new place to become poor. Much more than any 'chain' fabric store, the stuff they sell is quality fabric for a fraction more, I’ve a feeling that they will see more of my hard-earned cash in the future. The store ‘boothill “PATCHES” is located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley at the corner of Tampa and Saticoy in Reseda, just steps away from one of my old work location.

They had quality fabrics from such designers as Jenny Beyer, tons of Batiks, and even the size 10 John Jones hand quilting needles I was looking for (mmm...). Staff and clientele was extremely friendly and receptive, such as the quilters I’ve met here, and they’ve got even got tons of classes and a long arm for rent. Very cool, I was even invited to a slumber party (late ending Friday night quilting bee) right off!

I know for some of you such things as decent stores are second nature, but for me who had the idea that Joanne’s was the be all and end all in the area, it was truly an eye opener. The ladies took me in gently hand and showed me the workings and what was going on in the shop. Hot, hot, hot, Steve is on fire from another quilting experience. So very cool!
:D

You inspire me Steve! I would love to open a quilt shop just like the one you visited. Somewhere that everyone would know your name and you could get/give advice from every angle. What a network! I'm not going to knock the retail outlets, but I really prefer the hometown touch. How about you?

Oh--so happy for you!! I feel that way about 3 shops around here--2 are Mennonite. I'm going with a friend this Saturday--burying my resolution to not buy fabrics for 2008 even deeper.

Steve--can we see photos of some of the fabrics you've purchased?

Tampa and Saticoy, Reseda, close to hubbies stomping ground. I used to work in Granada Hills. That was many moons ago, now that I think about 22 years, wow I'm getting old. There used to be a shop off Balboa on Devonshire. It was full line fabric shop but had great cotton.

So this is awful, I’m a thinking “woe is me” and you all are encouraging the vice; jumping’ jimminy. Like I needed the encouragement! Am I simply destined to be a poor of wallet, but slaphappy, quilter all my days?

Well, at least the family will be quite warm.

the longarm for rent sounds wonderful, do you use it there or take it home? I would love to find that, it would have to be a take it home tho, the nearest quilt shop is 1-1/4 hr away and I work 6 days a week. I did get to try one at the Houston Quilt Show for just a minute. That wasn't enough to convince me to invest $7000.00 in one tho!

Yes Steve, you will probably be warm, happy and broke from now on!
