I have finished adding the borders to my first flannel quilt (for a baby)and I have two questions: 1. Do I put a quilt bat in the middle? 2. Do I bind with flannel or cotton? Love this site, I learn so much from everyone and the pictures, tutorials etc are great! Thanks everyone.

If I make a flannel quilt I bind it also with flannel. It just looks better to me that way. As for batting, I would keep in mind who I am making it for and how it might be used. Are they cold natured? I like batting in mine, but some people like thin quilts. You should post pictures! I love flannel quilts!

Yes please post a pic and I agree it depends if you want the extra warmth I would use a batting if so And binding with the flannel adds to the cozyness of flannel quilts.

If you can stand to work with it satin is a very nice binding for a baby quilt, I have a hard time with it myself, and yes add batting. Have fun making it.

I've bound flannel quilts with cotton, flannel and silk..its all a personal preference and I do add batting unless its a scrap flannel quilt with layers of flannel

I like the extra warmth of the batting for our cold winters. I would bind it with flannel. But it's all really a matter of preference. :)

Where does the baby live? When will the baby be born? Summer? Winter?
Ask these questions to decide if you want batting. If you make a flannel blanket and add batting, it could be too heavy to use in the summer.

As for binding, use what you like. Satin, flannel, cotton, any would be fine.

:D I usually use flannel myself, but this is my preference. Whatever you use, will be wonderful! I always put batting in a quilt. I have had several people that I made babyquilts for say that when the baby is really tiny, they fold the quilt into fourths, and that way they can lay the baby, when sleeping, on the floor, on the pew seat, wherever, and they are very comfy. When they get a bit bigger, they can fold it in half and still have somewhere when visiting, comfy for a baby to sleep. Yep, I love having the batting in them. Like I said, however you make it, they will love it!!!!! Just have fun!!!!!
