Default Rotary Cutter Blades - sharpen or buy new ones

I am debating about purchasing a new rotary blade sharpener. Is this cost effective, or should I just purchase new blades? Thanks for your advice!

I have not had the results I had hoped for using a sharpener, and ended up buying new blades.

I did not have good luck with the 60mm sharpener I bought, so I use my 45mm cutter and get blades from Harbor Freight. BTW, I've not had problems with those blades. Just saying.

I've used a ruler called Sullivans The Cutting Edge - it has a sharpener on one edge - seems to work very well. I just use it for a few cuts and then go back to my regular ruler. Probably won't work forever but it does extend the life of the blade.

I have not had any lucky with sharpening my blades either.

Buy new ones (blades) at Joann's when you have a coupon!

I've never used one, only because I've never heard anyone say they like it.

I've used one but find that I do better if I just bite the bullet and buy new blades. As I said in an earlier post, you can buy them at JHittle online at very reasonable prices.

Usually when my blades need to be replaced it's because I have run over a pin and have nicked the edge. No amount of sharpening will help that problem. I also have had good luck with the Harbor Freight blades, though I understand there have been some quality control problems that have caused some people to have bad experiences with them.

Thanks to all of you. You all share my feelings - just buy new blades. I have never been happy with the sharpener that I have; never seemed to really restore the blades to the original sharpness. I, too, get my blades at AJ Hittle. Thanks again ladies!
