Is it necessary to wash the material when your making potholders.

I always do..especially if I am giving them for a gift.

It will help make them lay flatter after they are washed :D:D:D

yes, commercial fabrics have sizing applied to them to make them look good on the bolt, you should wash that out. if you just make the pot holders and use them each time it gets hot you will be 'heating' the sizing and putting fumes into your air.
