How funny to have this come up today. Friends and I have been out picking up patterns today. We have 4 from here in California so far. I would love to exchange with others for their patterns.

And, we're not supposed to share the patterns.... because then, people won't go into the shops. So, please honor that condition..... and maybe after the shop hop is over, it might be okay. This year's theme is seasons and there are so many different patterns that the shops have come up with.

In some shops you can buy the fabric license plates.... I've heard that they sell for about $5-$6. I think those are really cute.

I don't have many shops that are participating near me. I've only gotten 1 pattern so far. I'm in the northwoods during the summer. But, I hope to get a few patterns when I go downstate to help my son can beans. It would be nice to see what QB members have put together from these patterns. But, let's not share patterns until the shop hop is over.
I've picked up 4 in MI while visiting "Up North", including 3 license plates. Love, love, love the shop in Williamsburg if you are near there--just some unique fabrics. With the 4 from MI, 1 from MO and one from my LQS, I only need 2 more, but have to agree with some others--I'm not seeing enough continuity to envision them going together in a quilt--and way too much applique and embroidery for me! And with the number of other projects needing to finish I doubt I'll get much further frankly.

I have collected about ten across Massachusetts. So far I finished one, then got distracted making The Big Star Christmas Quilt. I will get back to my rows soon. Some of them are really cute!

The central FL shops and coastal shops in central FL seem to go together with a definite FL flavor (beaches, horses, etc) and I wish I could have visited more before vacation. Now that I'm traveling, there's less continuity. VA had a spring and bunny theme which is cute and the one in PA so far has ants at a picnic. All are cute/nice. One shop owner said a customer came in with a finished quilt that had the row and then the license plate at the end of the row. The next row, she had the plate at the beginning of the row followed by the pattern. It was a good memory of her travels. So I'm going to follow that idea, I think. Trouble is, not all the shops have the plates, so I'll have to get creative on those to fill in the space. It's really interesting to go into the different shops. Such variety!

Just heard about this yesterday while being a guest at another guild.......the sample shown was only 36" wide....what for??????? This license plate thing...are they panel fabri or what? Was mentioned but not shown so don't know what that is about......I'm guessing this is just a row by row type quilt design?

Yes, only 36" ... but you can do whatever you want with them. They don't have to stack them one on top of each other. I saw one winning quilt that was done that way ... and yes, not a nice quilt size-wise.

At one store, I saw a finished quilt where they had broken a row of four stars, into single stars and used as cornerstones. Then made a matching pair of rows that they turned on their side to broaden out the quilt. Coordinating fabrics were used throughout and they ended up with one fantastic quilt!

Many are doing the rows singly ... as wall hangings or as table runners. Some hang nicely horizontally, and some can go either ways.

Coopah ... thanks for the license plate idea.

Others?? ... any other license plate usage ideas?

I don't think I would do that to anyone else's - but I have had some projects that would qualify!
