I like the Omnigrid 4 x 8 inch ruler.

My go-to rulers 6.5 x 24, 6.5 x 12, 3 x 18, and the 1 x 6. For marking the 1/4 inch I have a 6 inch long 1/4 inch square ruler.
I have a lot of squares starting at 3 inches going up to 15 inch. I would buy them as a I felt a need for them or as I would find them on sale. Just can't seem to pass a 50 to 60% off.

I just won a 4.5" one that's pretty nifty--but if just buying one, it'd be a 6.5"--can be used for more squares/pieces.

I have a 6.5 inch square Omnigrid and I like that size for small pieces. But recently after reading a recommendation on here about Creative Grids, I bought the 12.5 square to try out since I needed to replace my original one. I love it! It is easy to read and doesn't slip around at all. So I am in the process of swapping out all of my Omnigrids for Creative Grids. Found the 6.5 x 24 on sale, locally, yesterday. For you, I would recommend CG 6.5 square for sure.

I'll just go with my standard mantra since I don't do scraps. Find a brand of ruler and purchase that brand when getting new sizes. Not all rulers are created equal. Some have thicker/thinner lines; more/fewer measurements; etc. I have found that when using different brand rulers within a project, I have issues. Usually small and manageable, but issues nonetheless. One of these days I'll figure out which brand I like best and I need to add/replace will practice what I preach.

Same here, I use my 6.5 ruler more than any other.

I don't like square rulers, so I use my 6x12" for most of my small cutting, or 1.5x12" for very small stuff. They're still bigger than the scraps, but much more manageable than the 6x24".

I like a lot of my rulers. For squaring up, I use the 6.5" and 12.5" more than the others I have. The 4.5" is just too small for me. I can't seem to keep it straight. It slips badly. If I am cutting strips, I have a 6x18, 6x12 and a 3x24 that I use. I like rulers! And I have a lot of specialty rulers that I almost never use, but every once in a while I will go looking for them.

I use my 6 1/2" square daily, often my 4 1/2", 3 1/2" and 6X12" also. I have a 3" X18" that's great for strips.
