But which blocks are considered samplers? my idea is to pick blocks my great grandma would have made in like 1930's repo prints and then the other side be the same blocks in todays fabrics.... one side hand quilted maybe and other machined... i think that would be fun and i wouldnt be bored.

I have no idea how you would "only" hand quilt on the "front" of a quilt and "only" machine quilt on the "back" of the same quilt - if you want only one kind of stitching to show on each side.

From my reasearch a sampler quilt is made up of a seasoned quilters best blocks. They lady will make a sampler as she is getting on in life as a way to preserve her best work. Any block would be considered a sampler since the quilt is a sample of thier work.
