How big is a sampler? I want to make two of them with neckties for my aunt and cousin but did not know how big they should be. My uncle passed away and they wanted one so I am splitting the ties between them so they can have one each. There will be 20 pieces each, I think.
    Thanks,
    JOY

A sampler is a style of piecing where each block is different, not a quilt size. So you can make it any size you want, from a wall hanging the size of a placemat up to a king size bed quilt, just make each block a different pattern if you really want a sampler.

I don't think a sampler is what I would do with ties. A Dresden Plate is a common one to do with ties.

If you use the search function you can see some tie quilts here I'm sure :-)

Thank you so much for this suggestion. I did look it up and printed a pattern. It has helped considerably! Thanks! :)

Another idea is a crazy quilt, where you add accents to the blocks, I have seen ties used for this as well.
