Default Sashing question

I am making a D9P Christmas quilt. My blocks are 101/4" unfinished. I want to put them in a straight set with sashing. Are there rules/suggestions for how wide the sashing should be?
Thank you.

Your quilt, your rules. One way to try is to put a few blocks on the sashing fabric evenly spaced like you would for the sashing. Stand back and see how you like it. Adjust by spreading the blocks or bringing them closer until you are happy. Does that makes sense?

I agree, just try a few sizes and see what you think.

I just try different layouts myself. I dont have a "quilt wall" so I use the floor in my living room lol I know alot of people who use the computer generated planning but I wonder if you can actually put pics of your own fabric in it. I have to see it first hand before I commit lol Please let us know what you do - would love to see pictures

If you have EQ to do the planning on the computer you can actually scan in the actual fabric. It is really cool once you get the hang of it.

Thank you for your replies. My D9P is scrappy. Can one scan quilt blocks into the computer and play with border width that way.
