Exactly how wide is a scant 1/4 inch seam, is that like a pinch of somthing. In any case I don't know how to measure scant.
I am working on a pattern that calls for that. thanks

I was told it's 1 to 2 threads to the right of the 1/4". If I'm wrong someone else will let you know. Just need to move your needle 1 to 2 clicks to the right.

On my Babylock, it is one bump to the right on the stitch width. Or if your 1/4" stitch is at say 3.0 then bump to 3.5. One more thing, If you can get the 100% cotton DMC quilting thread. It is great. Strong and you don't need to do the scant 1/4" thing. I have put this thread to the test. What they advertize is true! Give it a shot.

I find it depends on the thread and fabric, and also if you're pressing to the side or open - I do a test seam, press and measure then adjust accordingly.

You truly do learn something new every day. I thought "scant 1/4" meant don't be a seam hog. HAHA
I will have to look at all my machines and see if I can move anything that little bit.
Measuring afterwards is a great idea!

Here's how you can check
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-89997-1.htm

Once you figure it out, use tape to mark your machine. If you usually use the same weight fabric and thread, it should not change. May need to recheck if you switch to a heavier fabric like thick flannel.

It's really worth the small amount of time it takes to figure out where it is on your machine. Blocks will come together much more easily.
