How easy is it to sew with Minkee fabrics?
#1
I really want to purchase some Minkee Safari Layer Cale fabrics from Missouri Star and wonder how much trouble I will have sewing with it. I make some pillows with some knobby fabrics last year and the stuff kept slipping and sliding. Anyone have some experience with these fabrics? These are not knobby and I want to back them with medium brown or beige flannel.

I saw a demo. They stitched an x across the square (probably to keep it from moving) and then sewed the squares together with a flannel backing and the seams showing on the front MissouriStarQuiltCo did a sample with charm size squares. It looked easy, but I also worked with some knobby ones and I did not do well. But these colors intrigued me. I probably need someone to talk me out of it.

I have sewn with Minkee...it looked like I was wearing it when I finished! Lint was everywhere. I found that I needed to pin and pin and pin and pin. I have heard of some people using a light fusible interfacing on the wrong side to 'stabalize' it. It does stretch. I am sure this sounds like I am advising against it but I am not. I love the finished product and them hassle of working with it is worth it to me. In fact, I have a minkee throw to make on my agenda for this summer.
