The "Thingy" is called a proxa brush, as Madame Kelly said. The brush heads come in different shapes and different thicknesses.

I just cleaned my machine and could have used the idea to use those little brushes used for teeth. I use them all the time for my teeth. Thanks for the hint.

My sister in law used to sell Mary Kay and she passed on sample mascara application brushes. They work like a charm and are the envy of my friends. A nice 'gift' to share with retreat buddies.

Madamekelly, I think I can one up you with a crazy cleaning tool. My gynecologist gave me (unused, of course) brush swabs that are used as part of the yearly gyno visit. The brush looks like a mascara brush, but the handle is about 8 inches long. You can bend the brush tip to get into hard to reach areas in your sewing machine. I got the idea at the Houston Quilt Festival years ago; a booth was giving them away.

I always use a pipe cleaner, very gently, to clean out all the areas in my machine. I find I pull lots of lint out by giving it a little 1/2 turn as I begin to pull it out.

That is what I use. Get a big bag for a dollar at on of the dollar stores.

Could this be what you're looking for? I've used these for years for everything from painting, gluing and cleaning my machine.

Are they the same as micro eyelash brushes? Lot cheaper.
