I just returned from Lincoln, Nebraska where I went to the National Quilt Museum on the campus of ther Univ. of Nebraska. Eleanor Burns was there to give a talk on quilting history and do a "bed turning" to show off many of the antique quilts from her collection. She gave the history of each quilt she had and in many instances showed the Quilt in a Day version she had devised to simplify the process. I drove 7 hours each way from Denver and it was well worth the trip. I have been as giddy as a school girl, you would think I never went anywhere, lol. If you ever get an opportunity to see her, do it! She is not only a hoot, but as down to earth as can be. One would never guess this woman sigle handedly started a multi-million dollar quilting empire. Thanks for listening. I just had to tell people who would understand!

I've met her before also, and she really is down to earth. She'll stop and talk to you, and is very friendly. (Unlike Karen McTavish, tried to talk to her two seperate times and was snubbed both times.

I've met her many times in Paducah. She doesn't hide behind a booth, she's out and mingles with everyone. She never stops smiling and the lady has a picture taken with someone every ten seconds. She stops whatever she's doing and gives you a big smile.

Oh yes, Eleanor Burns is great. As the saying goes "She has come a long way baby". I feel fortunate to have seen her several times. Her sister, Pat Knoechel, used to come to our quilt guild and give book reviews and demos . She always had a big stack of quilts and wall hangings for "show & tell". Very entertaining, then we could buy books and rulers (at a reduced rate) and it was great. Ruth

I met her in Lancaster at the AQS show. She is incredibly gracious- nearly to the point of exhaustion. I have to admit the first time I saw her TV show many years ago I found her manner a bit grating. It reminded me of a Kindergarden teacher I'd had who oversimplified everything. Got past that and found she was excellent at simplifying the math and patterns for quilters of all abilities. I'm sure she started a lot of quilters on their paths with her well photographed step by step books and rulers. Her son Ryan is also very personable. Glad you met her!
