OMG I've been throwing them away. I guess I'm supposed to save them...?

Did you get a PM from a board member who has never posted here but is looking for you to save them for her? Or did you want to make a bag or something out of them?

I was just browsing online & I saw a quilter using them, with the writing as part of her design! I'm bored. I'm looking for a scrappy project!I'm also tired of my scraps. But, I am going to Joann's tomorrow!

I got the PM - I ignored it. Wonder if she went through the whole user list.

Do you remember the web site? I was wondering what she was making with them.

I got the PM also, so did my mentor that adopted me. I have been saving them, but have very little.

Long Island. It's a field trip! Past Roosevelt Field, near where I taught art. I always visit when I see my dentist, also out there.

So, do you all save selvages? I suppose if I was a pro, I'd keep a log and include them.

I have a question regarding selvedges. When I prep my fabric for cutting I wash it dry it iron it and then square it up folding selvedge to selvedge. I do not cut the selvedges off when the fabric is still in yardage form. When I start cutting my fabric for a quilt I cut my strips and that is when I lop off the selvedge ends. So my selvedge pieces are only very small like 6" or less depending what my pattern calls for. It sounds like many people cut off the selvedge before cutting strips for quilting (said strips being further cut down for my patchwork pieces.)

Is there a reason for doing this?

BTW I never got the PM from the selvedge scrounge.

My first quilt instruction, made from Bali Pops, said to cut off the selvage first. And I did not prewash them. So I've just been cutting them off and tossing them out.
