I'm working on a project that requires odd shaped triangles to be sewed together to make a straight line. How do I know just how to place them? There's nothing to line up. What I've been doing is putting it where I want it to come out and folding it back to see where it lies... but that's not accurate. :roll: I've lost a point on one in the last batch... but it'll be fine. I'm hoping to do better for the next one. I have the triangles cut--after chores I'll check in to see if anyone has advice.

Are there tips hanging off of the side? Sometimes it is getting them positioned just right.
triangle trimmers can really be a big help, they take off the perfect amount of the corner so that you can line up the edges.

I think this would have helped me because those little tips seem rather fragile.

Yes--there are very pointy tips. :lol: I had to create these from EQ6 so nothing fancy. I see what you mean about something that would chop the points off... but I don't dare.

If you print out the templates from EQ, the points are automatically blunted off...you may want to try that, and use the template as your point trimmer.

Hmm--they weren't blunted... very pointy. One is an odd shaped rectangle cut in half, but it's exactly the large one cut in half too--mathematically interesting. :lol:

I just finished the argyle quilt top for my DDIL, that I had issues in lining the pieces up to sew.... They all had to be offset. I put a couple of pins on the 1/4" seam line, and flipped it over to check. I still had to take a few seams out every now and then, but it worked pretty well.
Funny thing is, towards the end I was actually liking working on it! lol!!!

That's a great idea!! Thanks!! I bet if I do that I won't have to redo any more! The second row worked better--I had to redo some though. Now I don't like the first row--before using the EQ6 measurements... so I tore it off and am headed to make another for that one. I'm making two wall hangings--same design.

If your pieces have 1/4 inch seam allowance built in, you can imagine a 1/4 inch seam line on both edges. Where the lines come together is the point. Match up the points on two pieces when you sew them together. (yeah, I know, easier said than done)

I did the pinning thing.. and it was a LOT easier to repin for being too high or too low than it was to tear the seam out to move it. Thank goodness those are done!! Now onto the appliqué part. I knew this project was out of my comfort zone. Next project is squares and rectangles!!! :roll:
