I have been surfing this afternoon and thought this would be a cool project for all of us to post Quilting Tips and just found this one for us.

Sewing Needles Tips:

I never liked the idea of changing my sewing machine needle with every project. Instead I sharpen them by sewing (without thread) through a piece of fine sandpaper. It gives me a fresh needle everytime (unknown)

I never thought about doing that. Thanks.

*Fill up two bobbins and use one of them for the top thread. That way both the bobbin and top thread will run out at the same time (how many of us have continued to sew without knowing we were out of bobbin thread?)

*Instead of throwing away dull rotary blades, save them and use them to cut wrapping paper.

*I bought a lot of Moda marbles for my current project, but they don't put the fabric number on the selvage like they do on the end of the bolt. So I wrote down the fabric compant, fabric number, and where its supposed to go in my project on a sticky note and stick it right to the fabric (like "Moda Marble 9802 Nabooru Color 3"). Sometimes I'll get ideas right in the quilt shop, buy the fabric, and then forget what the heck I bought it for so I have used the sticky notes to remind me why I bought that particular fabric.

Is it really OK? I'd worry about the "sand" bits going down into the bobbin area. I'd like to try it if it really works!

Yes, I don't think this is something I would do either...

I don't know if this is really a tip or not, but ----- When I finish piecing a top I always have leftover fabric from that project. I've started cutting all of my leftovers into 2 1/2 inch strips. Then when I need to do something to keep my hands busy and my mouth quiet, I pull out my strip collection and make tops like log cabin, rail fence, scrappy single Irish chain (or anything else). I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the color of strip, just the light, medium or dark tone.
