Is any one on the forum attending the Shawnee Park Ohio Quilt Retreat next weekend? I met up with another member in Malaga, Spain last month and look forward to meeting other members!

I'm not going, but since I live in Ohio when I saw your post I became curious. I looked QuiltEscape up to see what it was like and now I wish I could go. It certainly looks like fun and all the classes sound interesting.

I'm curious about a few things. Do you go alone or with a group? How many people usually attend?

We're about an hour and a half north of Columbus, so it would be about a four hour drive for me, which wouldn't be too bad. I've never been to Shawnee State Park. I've been to Lake Hope and Salt Fork and the one near Old Man's Cave (momentary lapse of memory). I live a few miles from Mohican State Park and forest. Shawnee looks beautiful. Too bad it's not a few weeks earlier in the fall when the leaves would still be gorgeous, but I'll bet it's hard to reserve the entire lodge and all the cabins for one event during the color season.

Have fun! :D

My mom and I pick a retreat in a different state each year. We started this three years ago. Our first was the Redbud Festival in Kentucky. Last year we did the Stitchen' Heaven Retreat in Texas. This year Shawnee in Ohio. We have found each one to be unique in its setting, instruction, projects, attendance, well, just about everything! There are a lot of singles who go to them, so don't worry about that - you will make a new friend quickly. I'll keep your email and let you know about this one when we get back. Perhaps you can plan to go next year!

Thanks, I'd appreciate hearing about it. It really sounds like fun; I'd love to go next year if I can work it out.

I think it's great that you and your mom can do this together. How neat to pick a retreat in a different state each year. There are so many to choose from. Diane Gaudynski often mentions one she teaches at that's held annually in Monterrey, CA (not sure I spelled that right, but too lazy to look it up). She raves about the accommodations and gorgeous views. I've looked at the retreats Harriet Hargrove holds and they also look intriguing. Of course, they're a lot more pricey than the smaller ones. :(

You and your mom have fun and I'll look forward to hearing about it when you get back. (This is me, happy for you, but green with envy!)

The Shawnee Retreat was wonderful! Very well organized, the accommodations and food were great. Lots of sewing space and usable vendors. The projects were all quite easy, but I still picked up several really neat tips! Of the three we have been to, this was by far the most relaxing and enjoyable. No drama, no problems. Lots of freebie giveaways. It is always the first weekend in November, next year's dates are the 5th, 6th and 7th. If you decide to go, I recommend staying in the Lodge, not a cabin (just way more convenient.)
