My daughter has asked for her quilt to be zebra and teal - and maybe some fuscia. What kind of pattern (for a beginner) would you think of for that combination?

That will be gorgeous! The Disappearing Nine Patch comes to mind with the large block zebra, the corners teal and the small center fuchsia.

I think it would be kind of cool to create an irish chain with those three colors. I just started an irish chain for DD with black, white, and grey. The black is the center of the 9 patch and the grey makes up the chains and the white is also the solid blocks. It looks pretty good. See avatar.

after seeing it posted here, i think the teal border needs to be the same size or larger than the sashing.

I think the pattern looks like an attic window and I love how it looks like you are peeking at the black and white. No additional border needed. IMHO. love it!

A square in a square would be easy and look good in those colors.

Oh Nan, wish I could do EQ like you can! That said I love that combo together. This is a striking easy quilt.
