I found a machine that I really want at a price I want to pay...the woman says it has only 15 hours on it and is 4 years old. She sent me pics...many of the parts are still wrapped in plastic, and the machine looks brand new. It is a few hour road trip there and I am thinking of just getting it shipped COD.
Not sure about any of it...I am not a risk taker...but ohhh this is so tempting!
    It's a Brother Innovis 4000D

If possible I would take the road trip- first that way you can use the machine and see if it really works - second maybe she can give you some help and advice with the machine

I'd also do the road trip. Not only to test drive it.
A lot can happen to a machine in shipping. Last time I was at my dealer, a NEW machine came in with the box all crushed. That's when the dealer talked me out of having one shipped from across the country. If that's how they arrive from the warehouse in proper packaging, just imagine if it's in less than ultimate packing!
With the newer and computerized machines - I wouldn't ship it.

I have a machine like that and I would definitely take the trip...it would be worth it...and use the embroidery part too while you are testing it....
I love mine and would highly recommend it but check the threader, bobbin winder, and all the stitches.
Best of luck...you will love it.

I agreeI would take the road trip :!: Take a friend(preferably a quilter) and make the trip. Spending that much money I would definitely want to take a test drive.

Yes...take the road trip. It's worth it to test drive it before you buy it and see how well it works. Make sure your not alone!!!! Shipping can be rough on machines.

Road trip! I got a machine once that was tossed casually in a cardboard box with a few foam peanuts and bounced all the way by UPS. Not a good thing! Several pieces on the machine were broken.

Yes-definately take the road trip-and also use it as an excuse to check out some LQS along the way! In fact, if this lady is really nice (what quilter isn't?), ask where her favorite shops are. Now, back to the machine-if you haven't had a brother before, it is a great machine! Hope it is just what you want! Be sure to take someone with you that loves quilting- and some chocolate for the road!! Let us know how it turns out! And take Pabs advice and bring some sample sandwiches to try it out on!
