I'm new to quilting. Iwant to do all the quilting by hand. Question: how do I hide the knots?

Welcome to the board from Southern California. I am not a hand quilter but there is a way to pop the knot at the end of your thread through one layer of fabric and into the batting to "hide" it. There are many hand quilters here that can explain the procedure!

You will burry them through the layers by "poping" them through. Make a small knot in the end of the thread. Put the needle in the top of the quilt an inch or so away from where you want to start stitching. Bring the needle out where you want to start. then when the knot gets to the top you will hold the thread tight and give it a quick short tug. The knot will "POP' under the top and be burried in between the layers. If you tug too hard it will POP out the other hole so it takes a bit of practice.
