I bought this machine almost 1 year ago..thought it was good to start. timming became an issue and never really settled now I try to zigzag and it will do a few stitches then go to straight and then back to zigzag. what am I doing wrong. ready to go and throw it into the store. it has been in repair 2 times and into the store 2 times for the timming issues and ended being the bobbins wouldn't hold tension now the stitches aren't right. it is a singer confidence quilter. only trying to zig zag the ties on a bow tuck purse. any thoughts. soon to be out of warranty of course.
and the auto tension doesn't work so the lady at the store told me my machine works well at +1 tension and it used t work on auto tension before it jumped time. what the hay...

Can you trade it in for a different brand of machine? Or perhaps get it adjudged a "lemon". (Check your state's "lemon" laws.)

Newer Singers, especially lower-end Singers, have a bad reputation for tension and other issues.

It's no fun sewing on a machine that has tension issues. My advice is to get another machine. For a fixed amount of money, you can almost always get a better machine used than new.

Did you buy this Singer from a dealer? If so, see if you can work with the dealer to get some satisfaction. Unfortunately, sewing machine dealerships work on very similar principles to car dealerships. Be aware that prices are not fixed so you should do your best to negotiate.

I have a Brother BC1000 that I bought 4 years ago at Walmart. It is a workhorse, has 60 built in stitches, and has never given me any trouble. If your budget for a machine is small, an inexpensive Brother may be an affordable alternative for you.

I bought it from joanns viking center and I am going tomorrow and raising cane. I posted about this machine 1 time to someone else having issues and not staying timed. boy am I eating my words and at the time it was going ok. I am going back into them tomorrow and demanding satifaction which after a year I am not going to get. one time the lady took the bobbin case from a new machine and put it in mine..and to think I had a singer slant o matic and thought I needed a new machine. I sold the slant o matic for $50 and would paid that x 3 to get it back. I am emailing the company tomorrow with all the dates it has been in the shop and my dissatifaction with it. thought maybe it was something I did wrong but really not thinking it was my error. it is only a push button for the stitches. now I have learned I love changing cams..

Good luck - is there a sewing machine repair store in your area? I was told by my local Joann Fabric - that my Viking machine wasn't worth fixing - they would give me $100 for it in trade for a new machine. Told them I would think about it -went home & found a sewing machine repair man in the yellow pages - he serviced and cleaned my machine for $70 - works like a charm now.

i have one of those too and it was a piece of junk although my mil has one and hers works ok although it is louder than a train lol. i had it worked on twice and gave up i recently bought a brother sq 9000 and it is great i cant believe i didnt do it earlier !!! i bought it at hancocks and they were closing in our area and it was just too far and too much trouble to return it and some of the stitches work and some dont my mil is more experienced and better at fighting with it so i left it to be used by others st the quilt house. i have my new one and my old faithful kenmore for a spare. thats really all i need.

well I took the machine back to joanns for repair and they gave me full trade up value for it so I bought a viking emerald. haven't even had the time to set it up yet. the lady I talked with on the phone already called her boss before I go there and told them how many times it had been in for repair and this is what was decided and really I am praying this was the best decision because I had to spend more money that I really didn't have but cannot make any money without the machine. so will update in a while after I get it going on.
