I was wondering what size room you need to put a longarm machine in. How much room do you need around the longarm machine.

I would like to have one that would quilt a king size quilt.

Mine frame is about 11 ft long and 3 feet wide. You need a couple of feet around it for moving around it. I have a Pinnacle frame.

my frame is 14 ft.8" long and 5 ft wide I have Gammill classic plus-- my machine has a 26" throat you need at least two feet on one end and at least that much on both sides (Mine is in basement) Check different sites to see minimums especially if by batts on roll and try to maneuver under machine NEVER had quilt that filled frame could of easily gotten away with 12ft. and don't think would of wanted wider throat- my arms can't stretch any farther. hope this helps

12 feet long, 3 feet wide, plus 2.5 to 3 feet at least on all sides to move around and work.

Also consider how much room you will need for your fabric, batting, and tools to be stored and usable.

Good lighting is a must also.

My room is 16 X 14, wish it was bigger.
I have a beautiful bay window to look out, across our big front yard... sometimes I watch the eagles that nest by our house. LOVE LOVE LOVE

I guess that having a longarm will be a dream for me for now, as there is no place to put one that has that much room.

We have a old farm house and all the rooms are really on the small size. I was thinking I could take one of the bed rooms upstairs but they are all way to small.
Big house, 4 bedrooms up 1 down, just 2 old birds living here now, all the little birds flew away. LOL but they all come back from time to time with more little birds....

I first had my frame setup in a small office at 10'. I only quilted from the front at that time so it was only 8" or so away from the back wall and flush up against the wall on the right with about 3' open area on the front & left sides.

In a perfect world, you would want 3' all the way around but I couldn't wait for perfect--LOL!

I have also had my frame set diagonally out from a corner when I moved it into a room that all ready had a bunch of stuff taking up space so even in a small room, setting it up diagonally will give you the needed space front & back if you plan to work on both sides of it. I still don't use the back side of mine often enough for it to be a concern for me even though I now have mine setup with room all around it.

To fit my Tin Lizzie 18 in I had to get rid of my desk and computer and one of my work tables.....Oh Well...I just had to have that machine!

I have just enough room to get around 3 sides, the fourth is up against a wall. 10 foot frame, room 6 feet x 12 feet.
