I'm using silk thread with my applique . I just have a question regarding keeping you thread in your needle.
I seen a video that showed making a knot at the needle's eye to hold the thread from slipping out. I just can't remember were I seen it at. Has anyone seen the video or does anyone have any other suggestions?

    I use this threader....http://www.Clotilde.com/detail.html?...=531&cat_id=95
It causes the thread to go into the eye and create a loop on the other side. I run the needle back up thru the loop and it ties a knot at the eye of the needle. Some people have trouble using it....but I find it easier.

I don't know about the video but I just make a loop knot at the head of the needle with the 2 treads and then you don't loose your thread. I also use "tread heaven" which is in a little blue box to condition my thread so it doesn't get tangled!

This is the method I use, but I quilt with only one thread.

I will try to explain how to do this...put the thread through the eye, draw it out about 6", turn the end you put through back toward the eye and re-insert it going back the other way so you have a loop; put the tip of the needle through the loop holding both ends on one side of the needle. gently pull it tight- you can adjust the length of a tail while pulling it tight so you have a 3"-4" tail. I do this for all my hand sewing - not just applique with silk thread.
