Thread: Small scraps

My friend asked me to consult other quilting friends about her stash of bits & pieces left-over from her mother's quilting, beginning around 1930's. She said that there aren't any big pieces, just small trimmings. Has anyone ever found a fun project to use these? Maybe make those rag balls to fill a lamp base? I have found many blocks of various sizes in my grandmother's stash. I'm daydreaming about what to do with those. I could see something pretty coming of those with some 1930's print as sashing, perhaps.

I like working with small, and I'm doing a hexagon project that only needs 1 1/4" pieces to finish a 3/8" hexie.

I've seen a few of the "lint quilts" lately. It uses itty bitty scraps to make a larger picture and there's something about tulle and batting. Just recently heard of them so I don't know much about then except that!

I saw someone make a purse out of salvage edges. It was really nice.

Tiny, tiny scraps made quilt jelly. Take your tiniest scraps mix well for good color variety. Fill a mason jar, add lid and maybe a decorative jar topper.

Confetti quilts use pieces are just slivers wide by an inch long or so. I use these in appliques. There is literally no piece of fabric so small it can't be used.

I sew small pieces together,eventually they will grow into a quilt.

Beautiful scrap quilts called Crumb Quilts can be made from very small pieces. Crazy Quilts can be made from small pieces. Have fun!

I have been using 2" scraps for doll quilts. anything smaller than that goes into a bin to use for stuffing for dog pillows for the humane society! I throw away nothing!
