I am looking for a snowflake pattern. it has eight points it is an old pattern. I have the paper pattern from a newspaper date 1953. but i can not make useable pattern from the copy I have and I think it is missing a piece, or it must be appliqued to the background fabric.

How does it manage to get eight points with a hexagon (six sided) center?? (Snowflakes only have six sides)

this has eight points and maybe that is why is'm having a problem with the center piece. the center does have eight sides. and the title is the 8 point snowflake. you do four point in dark and four point in light s It could be a star block not sure.

The only eight pointed star block I have been able to find with an octagon in the center and alternating dark and light diamond points is a block called Folded Stars originally published by Nancy Page in the late 20's/early 30's. It is on page 340 (#4444) of Maggie Malone's book, 5,500 Quilt Block Designs. Sorry, no pattern instructions found for you.
