Default So excited going on my first quilt retreat

For my 60th birthday my daughter and son and their families have arranged for me to go on a quilt retreat. I have wanted to do one for ages but never said so I was very surprised and pleased that they surprised me this way.

I set off tomorrow evening and am spending the night with a relative in Edinburgh and then completing the drive to Cullen on Friday morning. It's not taught, just bring your own projects and work as you like. The lady who hosts has been a quilter for 30 years and supplies the basics cutting mats ironing boards etc. she does have sewing machines but I am going to take my own.

I am going to be working on a grey/white chevron quilt, a modern block quilt and a table runner, only there till Monday morning so,that should keep me going.

Did I mention that the food is supposed to be lovely?

Can't wait.

I'm jealous. Enjoy, take photos, come back and tell us (and show us) all about it, please!

You will have a great time. I love retreats with my sewing buddies. We have one scheduled in November for a week.

Have fun! It is so nice to just sit and sew with like-minded folks - no distractions.

I love retreats! I get so much done and really enjoy the time spent sewing with friends. If you like to make scrap quilts, be sure to put the word out at your retreat. I find that I get lots of donations of scraps once people know that I'll use them!

I go to at least 3 retreats a year, one with each of the guilds I belong to and one that is a business put together by some friends who take care of all the arrangements, including lodging, food and teachers (most of whom are nationally known). A bunch of us who are members of another online quilting group are planning a retreat at the Missouri Star Quilt Company retreat in May 2016, so I am giving up one of the guild retreats to pay for the MSQC retreat. Choosing projects to work on is frustrating. One year, all I took was UFOs and WIPs and finished 4 tops at each retreat. Now I have 8 tops that are ready for sandwiching and quilting. A couple more years and I might just have some quilts. LOL I hope you have lots of fun.
