Jan thanks for the kick in the pants -- your comment about 'scraps' -- I need to just toss some of this cheap, thin fabric that I inherited --- I have been hanging onto it for what????

irons....which lose their spray action, leak, or don't heat thoroughly
    marking pencils....I hate nubs!
    templates....with dinged or chipped corners
leftovers....fabric scraps, partial patterns, 3-out-of-4 buttons, that trim you'll never use, batting scraps when you have yards of leftover batting pieces, a "finished" bobbin with about 2-3 yards of thread left on it
UFOs older than dirt which you'll never get around to completing
(These last two are "attention span". THAT does not seem to last forever either. )

Ahhh... now Jan.....I was going along agreeing with everything until I hit this point. Now those are my absolute favorite loves! Nothing makes me more happy than to use all those bits and bobs! Now if you can't stand it and feel the urge to throw away then STOP! You can send them on to me and I will cherish them. Heck I'll even pay you to ship. Lol!

Any item that gives me frustration I get rid of and replace. I don't save used up items that may be useful some day to use for other purposes because I wouldn't have room to live in the house and never has that someday ever came.
    I love my life!

Reminds me of the time when we were putting an addition on our house. Hubs is a great 'saver'. BIL and I were cleaning out the back porch as that was coming off the house. There were a host of things that he kept asking if I wanted to keep because 'somebody might be able to use this someday'. My answer to him quickly became 'then take it to YOUR house until SOMEBODY comes and gets it'! Old, used up, ratty items just have no place in my life. I will certainly repurpose any number of things but not everything.

    Haha! This made me laugh!

I despise clutter so I've gotten pretty good at deciding if I'll truly use something or should just pitch it. I need order and clean surfaces to focus. I've seen people here say many times that if your sewing room is clean, you must not be creative. I beg to differ... I'd never be able to create amongst clutter.

I agree - I cannot stand clutter either! I know where everything is in my sewing room, and hate it if it is not at my fingertips when I need it. When I am done for the day, the scissors are put back in the spinning holder on the table, and all is tidy for the next day. I may have stacks of blocks I am working on out on the table, but that is all!

And, I forget that I have these 'maybe I'll find a use for it someday' things saved.

    Accepting donations of buttons here!

They have so many uses as "eyes" and in Crazy Quilting.

Boy howdy, Bearisgray, you are right! Yet I struggle on, especially with those rotary blades!

Needles I'm better with; I bought a box of 100 so have enough to last a good, long time. When I start to hear a pop when sewing, I know it's time to change it out. Pins, as they bend, are put in an old pill bottle to be thrown away.

Jan ~ I wish I was more like you. I hold on to way too much "stuff" and my studio shows it!
