I have only had this machine for a few months and took 1 lesson on how to use it but since that was a few months ago and she showed us many things, I have forgotten some of the set ups to do some of the functions and my notes arent making alot of sense to me. Can anyone tell me how to set it up to so some FMQ.

Do you mean with the BSR? I just put the foot on, plug it in, lower the feed dogs, and select the mode I want. Mode 1 keeps stitching even when the fabric stops moving, whereas Mode 2 only stitches when it "sees" the fabric move. I sometimes lengthen my stitch but it depends what I'm quilting.

Yes with the BSR what do I do to get the machine ready besides putting the foot on, I dont remember how to lower the feed dogs either I know there is a button to push but thats it... I really need step by step help. How do I select the mode I really dont remember this part at all. I want mode 2
I am going to take the class again but cant with this weather around here. The Bernina dealer is about 30 miles away and is and located in the country (Mennonite Community)

Feed dogs are controlled by a button on the right side of the machine near the bottom (it's the same plastic as the machine, just feel for the bit you can push in). Once the BSR is plugged into the machine, the screen will show "BSR" and "1". To change mode, just use the stitch keys (ie the zigzag stitch button, #2, will put it into mode 2.

I didnt buy the machine, my cousin suddenly passed away last year just months after she bought the machine, her husband was kind enough to mail it to me knowing her and I were were very close lond distance sewing buddies (she in Houston and me in NY).
I did go to our local Bernina dealer and get a very basic lesson on how to use it. I took some notes but because I was trying to work along with the class they are very sketchy and now do not make much sense to me.

I havent even gone yet to learn the embroidery and computer part yet.
Thansk for the video site, I will take the time to look at it and hopefully it can answer some of my questions.

I have a manuel but I think Bernina could have gone into better detail with instructions. I am not sure if its the original one that would have come with the machine or just something the Bernina dealer had that she gave to me.

There is a CD, would that be helpful in directions on setting up functions.

I love the machine and am just so afraid of trying to set things up myself for fear I will really do something to it.

It sure is quite a step up from my own Kennmore I had just bought before getting this.

I have called my store and asked for info and they are very gracious and help me thru my questions. I have the QE also and have used the BSR. I haven't had any classes yet, but will start in Feb. I agree the manual is not very complete in explaining how to do these specialized things. I FMQ on a baby quilt, but had severe eyelash on the back side. I guess that's from a setting that was not correct. Also, be sure you use good thread-I use either Aurifil or King Tut as recommended by folks on this board.

Some of the manuals are terrible, although the 440's is better than what I got with my old 153! They might as well not have given me one. There was also a Mastery Guide that was used in classes (not that we have any such thing over here, LOL).

If you have the Bernina Instructional Presentation CD it should help you quite a lot with the basics.

I also have a 440Qe. Started the classes then broke my right hand. Anyway I am starting classes again this month, they are 45miles away. What I did pick up is that this is a very touchy machine, or maybe I am intimidated by it. I have had this machine for 1year and have not done anything but dust it. I keep plugging along on my Janome 4800. Boy do I need help.

I have the manual.. Have not taken any classes as I was scheduled to then got hit by a fork truck and crushed my foot. Needless to say I was home for awhile, so I took out that book and played . ALOT. I pretty much learned it on my own just playing. I fyou have the cd and the book it is not so hard just trial and error.
