OK, I'm a bit loopy today - well, more than usual! LOL
I did NOT SLEEP at ALL last night! Not even little naps! UGH! I've been working on a challenge quilt for my guild - "Black & White & ______ All Over". The guild supplied a 6" square of black & one of white fabric, we could add ONE other color - any tint or tone in that color range, as well as any gray between black & white. The name of mine is "Black & White & Read All Over", and I've used blues as my 3rd color. (That will make sense when I post a pic of the end result - I think!) I worked on it for HOURS yesterday, and my brain would NOT shut off when I finally went to bed at 1:30 this morning. I read until about 2:30, turned off the light....and sewed & rearranged it in my head, figuring out how to do & that on it...oh, did I say it needs to be completed by Thursday night's guild meeting?....tried all my regular go-to-sleep tricks, no matter what, went back to that darned thing! So at 3:30 I got up & cleaned the cat box so I wouldn't have to do it when I get home tonight (trash day tomorrow), then read for about another hour. Tried to nap at least until my music came on at 5:00 - no luck. If I could have actually SEWED while I was trying to sleep, this thing would be an absolute MASTERPIECE!! LOL But I know better than to try THAT...I do LIKE my fingers attached as they are! Anyway, managed to make PB & J's for breakfast & lunch & made it to work (and am working so hard, can you tell?), but who knows if I'll make it all the way thru the day! I'll give it my best shot!
Anybody else done this lately???

I have nights like that sometimes. I guess I get too tired to sleep or something! I try to make myself go to sleep so I don't bother the DH. The kids sleep pretty heavily. DH is a heavy sleeper, too, but if I'm not in bed beside him, he doesn't sleep well.

Here is a tip: Try audio books! They are better than reading at night bc you can close your eyes and relax a little instead of trying to hold the eyes open. I thought I would hate an audio book, but a friend let me borrow one a few years ago. Now, I am hooked! I like the tapes best bc you can stop them where you want and that is where they are when you turn it back on.
Also, I get SO SLEEPY when I listen to them....and usually doze off. Then I have to find my place the next night. LOL! but it does help me sleep, so that's the point I'm trying to make!

I also use headphones only for this so it doesn't bother anyone and so the kids don't hear a "bad word".

It is actually so amazing how little sleep humans can really function on! i haven't slept for years. Not very well, anyway, since the first baby was born.

It can be very frustrating to not be able to shut your mind off, especially if it is working on a quilt and you know better than to go in and even try to sew on it....Probably why it is so frustratng....I like your idea though Buttercream....audios are a great way to doze...I wonder.....has anyone made one that is hypnotic and deals with achieving great quilting results?? That would be a winner for sure

About 6 mos ago or so I went thru a spell where I wasn't sleeping well at all.. I'm not sure what caused it but am glad its over.... I would play computer games to lull myself off to LaLa land or turn on the tv just loud enuf so I could hear what they were saying and listen carefully to every word (this would probably be like listening to an audio book)...those were about the only two things that would get me to sleep.....I never tried sewing in the middle of the night....I'm with you.... I like my digits! LOL

I'll have to try some audio books if this keeps up - I even tried the recliner, alias "The Sleeping Chair" & that didn't work last night. But I'm sure I'll sleep good tonight!! Last night was like Diary of a Mad Housewife - doing dishes at 1:00 a.m. & the catbox at 3:30! If you look under the pics of our sewing rooms topic, you can tell I'm NOT a compulsive neatnik! LOL
Thanks for the ideas all! :D

Awake 36.5 hours & counting....got the main pieced part of my challenge done, ironed & starched. Decided to stop before sleep deprivation makes me do something weird to it. Amazingly enough, it's beginning to look like it did when it was still in my head! WooHooo!!!! :D

That's it for me....gonna close down & hit the sack - wish me luck!

Did you get some sleep? I was thinking about you as I layed awake last night making lists in my head. I did fall asleep and got a few hours before the alarm went off. I am already counting down the hours until I slip off to bed tonight.

Can't wait to see pics of your project.
