I don't have a 12 1/5 inch square ruler.
Is there anything else you can use for this pattern?
I really don't want to buy one for one time use if I can help it.
How would a cut cardboard work?

You might find you'd use the 12.5" square ruler more than you think. A lot of blocks are 12.5" unfinished. I use mine a lot to do a last minute tweak on my finished blocks before I start putting them together. I use it and the 4.5 the most.

I resisted to buy a 12.5 ruler, and now I can't believe I didn't get it sooner. I use it all the time. Got for it! Ya can't see thru cardboard. . .

I agree, it would be a nice addition to your notions. My girlfriend whom I quilt with owns one, I don't, but I have used her's on many many occassions. Hmmmm.....maybe that's what I will ask to have for my birthday....

Um, I have never owned one in all the years I have been quilting. I have a 1 inch x 13 inch ruler that I use for everything. I only recently acuired a triangle ruler.

Go to a hardware store that sells plexiglass...ask if they have a scrap that would make you a 12 1/2 inch square. Stress--it must be square..that's what I did--got a 10, an 8 and a 121/2 for $5.49

I would buy the ruler, you will use it for squaring off corners before binding. You will use it to cut out blocks for background applique. I use this ruler and the 6 x 24" ruler more then anything.

Me too! I know it is a pricey item, but I reach for it a good deal!

You should also realize that the 12.5" ruler can also be used to square up EVERY sized square/block that you could ever make. I have a 6.5" square ruler that I use when I have a lot of small squares to cut but the 12.5" is an essential tool in my sewing room.
